Middle East flavours in a Legendary Palace Dinner

We offer you a unique experience. Our scenario: A house, three stories, enchanting atmosphere, old walls, high ceilings, rooftop terrace, one of the oldest buildings in the city. Casa Adret stands in what was once the heart of Jewish Quarter, entering it’s walls is a shortcut to the Middle Ages. This significant location demanded extreme thoughtfulness on the part of the building’s designers, who have carefully crafted a structure that has become a symbol of the new face of the old Call. Our food: Jewish culinary festival. In a nut shell, Middle East meets West, Sepharad and Ashkenaz (West and Eastern Europe) cuisine with a touch of México, Italy and Australia. The word festival has been used because that´s what we offer, a festival for your eyes, on your plate and certainly for your mouth. We are inspired by the way the mothers and grandmothers of our lives have served us food: abundantly and with love. We consider ourselves something between Yiddishe Momme and La Mamma Italiana (if there´s any difference…) In this menu we will surprise you with different flavours from our different backgrounds. Everything will be set on the table so you can build your own perfect bite. *We cook for anyone, so the menu can adapt to intolerances, allergies, food preferences such as vegetarians or vegans. *Our meal is not Kosher certified but in request is Kosher style. We have a great variety of dishes so we have decided to make different combinations every night. This is just a sample menu: Selection of assorted dishes: 2 kinds of pickled vegetables (red cabbage and cauliflower with spring onion and carrots) 3 kinds of salads (Fatouch and winter salad) 4 kinds of dipping sauces or purées (special hummus, beats and yogurt, white beans and curry and bazerjan) 4 kinds of star dishes (kubbe, croquettes, knishes, lajmayin) Pita bread ,Dessert 2 kinds of dessert (baklava and grandma´s cheescake)

This was a wonderful night! I attended with 3 other guests and we all agreed that this was one of the highlights of our trip to Barcelona. Monica prepared a terrific meal and provided us with a tour that was full of information. The setting for the meal was one that I will never forget. 5

Evento de Monica & Eva

And then they were two. Monica and Eva. We are Toldot Barcelona. We come from very different backgrounds, different corners of the globe, but our journey has intertwined through food. Toldot means chronicle in Hebrew, and what we wish to do is bring food, histories and heritage, different chronicles, to the table. Monica, from Mexico City, was raised in a Syrian Jewish family. Eva, from Melbourne Australia, Askenazi Polish heritage and Irish roots. Food has always been part our lives. Coincidentally, the oldest and greatest moments of our lives have been in the kitchen or around a food table. Maybe this is why we like each other so much. Toldot Barcelona is a common project where we wish to explore and promote Jewish culture and heritage through food. The Jewish culinary legacy is so vast and diverse, and the question hovers, ‘What is Jewish Food’? With the three of us, we cover a great part, from Middle East, to Easter Europe, from Ashkenazi to Sepharadic (think: peirogi meets kippe). It´s a richness that is intertwined not only with the places where we are born, the families that we came from, but also this incredible culture we now call home. The experience we offer is not only culinary, but historic- the space where we are located is the oldest inhabited house in the city. Casa Adret stands in what was once the heart of Jewish Quarter. This significant location is highlighted through stunning design, its architects carefully crafted a structure that has become a symbol of the new face of the old Call. Entering it’s walls is a shortcut to the Middle Ages, an opportunity so rare and special, even for locals. So, basically what we love to do is cook, eat, feed mouths, meet people, listen to their stories and share ours. We believe that worlds can come closer by eating at the same table and sharing flavors. We hope we can share this exceptional experience with you, and to be taken to another world.
